WEB SERVER, DOWNLOADING, UPLOADING And SURFING

WEB SERVER

Web servers are big powerful computers which store web pages and web sites. When
you enter the URL of a web page in your web browser or click on a hyperlink, you
are actually sending a request to the web server. The web server process your
request and sends the web page to your computer.

GOING ONLINE

When you are connected to the Internet and are on the World Wide Web, you are
online. You can take part in many activities like chatting, sending mail and surfing
when you are online.

DOWNLOADING

You can save a page from the web to your computer for future reference. This is
called Downloading.

UPLOADING

When you move a page from your computer onto the World Wide Web, you are uploading a
file. An uploaded file is stored on a web server. We need special software to upload
files.

SURFING

The process of moving from one website to another on the WWW is known as Surfing.
Like we flip through the pages of a magazine, we surf from one web page to another
searching for information.
